Our Method

The words “Interactive Progression” best describe the philosophy and the process of our method.

Through the interactive use of readers, workbooks, flash cards, audio CDs, DVDs, Apps, and an Online Tutor, students’ progress methodically through each level. The colorful books and workbooks are simply written and subjects of the lessons are taken from everyday life.

All of the written, audio, and interactive parts of the curriculum reinforce and support one another. Classroom and home students will discover that using materials written to the Interactive Progression method is a proven way to learn Modern Greek.

The Alphabet

In both in the elementary and the adult series the alphabet is introduced over many lessons. This allows the student the time required to master the sound of each letter.

Letters are not introduced according to their position in the alphabet but with the intention of forming simple words. Under this approach students will learn simple words and form small sentences and dialogs.

The Nouns

In our method nouns are divided into 3 groups. They include masculine, feminine, and neuter.

          a. Masculine nouns, according to their ending, are divided into five groups:

Group 1, nouns ending in - ος

Group 2, nouns ending in -ας

Group 3, nouns ending in -ης

Group 4, nouns ending in –εςand

Group 5, nouns ending in - ους

          b. Feminine nouns, according to their ending, are divided into five groups:

Group 1, nouns ending in - ος

Group 2, nouns ending in -α

Group 3, nouns ending in -η

Group 4, nouns ending in -ου

Group 5, nouns ending in –ω

          c. Neuter nouns are divided into four groups:

Group 1, nouns ending in –o

                   Group 2, nouns ending in - ι

Group 3, nouns ending in – μα

Group 4, nouns ending in – ος

The Verbs

One critical element of the language is the verb. In our method the verbs have been organized in a simple and straightforward manner.

The verbs are divided into four groups according to their endings.

          α. Group 1 - ω

          b. Group 2, - verbs ending in –ώ(with an accent)

          c. Group 3, -verbs also ending in –ώ(with an accent) but with a slight different           conjugation

          d. Groups 4, verbs ending in –ομαι

When a student masters one verb from each group he will be able to recognize, conjugate, and form tenses for thousands of verbs belonging to that group.

The tenses of the verbs are presented as follows:

In Level One only verbs of the first conjugation and a few of the second conjugation are presented, and only in the present tense.

The past tenses are introduced in Level Two.

The future tenses are introduced in Level Three.

The rest of the tenses are introduced in Level Four.
